Listening, Part II

Another wonderful cab ride. Tonight it was from Margaritaville at Universal Studios back to my hotel in Orlando. Tonight’s cabbie was Joseph, originally from Ghana.

Joseph has been in the US 16 years. Compared to his life in Ghana, he sees life driving a cab in Orlando as being truly blessed. And Joseph is happy. He considers he has many more opportunities here than he had in Ghana. But what is Joseph’s dream? He wants computers in the hands of all the children in western Africa. He wants to see them educated. He wants to see them given more opportunities than just “what am I feeding my family today”. I will help Joseph. I will find laptops for children in western Africa. Joseph says if I get him the computers, he and I will fly together with crates of computers and give them out. He says together we will teach the children of western African (Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Cameroon, etc) there is more to life than just feeding one’s family on a day-to-day basis.

I have two laptops I will give him immediately. One older, one not so old. Who wants to help me provide these tools?

I have also worked in a computer lab at an elementary school. So I have the knowledge and skills to not only provide the tools, but to provide the training. Who is with me?
